PHILIP KOTLER es uno de los fundadores del marketing tradicional. Pertenece a la escuela norteamericana. Muchas universidades del mundo han adoptado su visión del marketing. Es decir, hoy en día buena parte de los profesionales del marketing se encuentran bajo la influencia del pensamiento KOTLER. Sus libros, desde 1969, han vendido más de 3 millones de copias, traducidos a 18 idiomas, llegando a 58 naciones. Sin duda, muchas de sus teorías y definiciones sobre el marketing tradicional siguen vigentes. Sin embargo de un tiempo a esta parte varias teorías de Philip KOTLER han sido tildadas de obsoletas y hasta erróneas por muchas escuelas en el mundo, principalmente la europea. Hoy, una técnica de Permission marketing, o marketing de permiso, es el "Buzz Marketing", si el buzzzzzzz, como el sumbido de una abeja. No se trata que sea una nueva contextualización del tradicional boca a boca. El Buzz es un conjunto de medios que favorecen el boca boca, en provecho de un producto, marca o servicio de manera eficaz, durable y permanente. Boca a boca puede haber sin buz marketing pero buzz marketing no puede haber sin bioca a boca. La novedad es que hoy estamos mucho más conectados. Por ejemplo en brasil ya hay más de 75,5 millones de teléfonos celulares, 67 millones de usuarios de Internet, 62 millones de televidentes de cable. Lo que forman verdaderas comunidades de personas conectadas.
Las técnicas de buzz marketing se ocupan en transformar a sus clientes en "evangelizadores" Proselitistas entusiastas de su producto, servicio o marca. Sin embargo para lograr establecer un programa de buzz eficiente lo primero es identificar una "causa".Por ejemplo hoy por hoy han comenzando a aparecer las denominadas marcas sociales, en el Islam la Mecca Cola, una bebida Cola que se transforma en un reivindicador social , para el mundo del Islam.
